ABOUT US

Greely Softball offers softball for youth aged 4 to 17 for both boys and girls.  Blastball and 5-pitch are played exclusively in Greely on set nights (Monday for Blastball and Tuesday and/or Thursday for 5-pitch) while Mites and up play in multiple locations from Sunday through Thursday.  As we are part of the Rural Ottawa Softball Association, the schedules are made closer to the beginning of the season and all teams have an equal  number of home and away games.  The season runs fromt he beginning of May to the end of June for Blastball and 5-pitch.  The year end tournament for Mites, PeeWee and Girl Midget will be from July 5-7, 2019.  The tournament for Squirts, Boys Bantam-Midget and Girl's Bantam will be  from July 12-14, 2019.  All teams receive a shirt, trophy and photo.  Mites and up receive ball pants for which there is a $20 deposit included with the registration fee.  There is also a tournament deposit included for Mites and up that is refunded if the play participates in the ENTIRE tournament.

Note: Once we have a group of people willing to volunteer, a list will be sent to all volunteers with additional contact information

ROSA - Rural Ottawa Softball Association

Greely’s teams play other associations under the Rural Ottawa Softball Association or ROSA.  These include ROMSA, Gloucester, Vars, Munster, Kemptville and Kenmore. Communication with the association for this season are being set up now!

Sponsors Needed

This year as always Greely Softball welcomes team sponsorships. A team can be sponsored by your company for $250.

The sponsor will receive a T-shirt with the company name (same as what the team players will get) and will also receive a team picture and a thank you trophy. Even at these early days, we already have one sponsorship pledged.

If you or your company is interested, please send an email to Rhea Higginson, our treasurer, at rhigginson@rogers.com. Please be sure to include the child’s name and playing level. Alternatively, you can use the registration form and she will contact you for more information.

2023 Season Registration Now Open!

2023 Greely Softball Registration Update

On April 4 we will have our first meeting of the year with ROSA, the league our teams,  mites and older, play in. We will be asked how many teams at each level will Greely  be fielding this year. They usually allow a week to provide them with this information.

The league needs to know so that schedules can be made. We will need this information to order t-shirts and softballs. If we want them to be ready at the start of the season, we will have to know this no later than April 10 or 12.

As of March 15 here are the registrations we had received for each level. There are 50 registrations to date. Last year we had 116 children registered. Before Covid we would register 220+.

Blastball            20 kids        (4,5 and 6 year olds

5-Pitch                 6 kids       (5,6 and 7 year olds)

Boy Mites            1 kids       (9 and 10 year olds)

Girl Mites            2  kids       (9 and 10 year olds)

Boy Squirts          3  kids      (11 and 12 year olds)

Girl Squirts          1  kid        (11 and 12 year olds)

Boy PeeWee       1 kid         ( 13 and 14 year olds)

Girl PeeWee       2  kids       (13 and 14 year olds)

Boy Bantam        3 kids        (15 and 16 year olds)

Girl Bantam         0 kids       (15 and 16 year olds)

Boy Midget          1 kid         (17 and 18 yar olds)

Girl Midget          4 kids        (17 and 18 year olds)

If these registrations stay the same till April 10 or 12we would only have Blastball in Greely for 2023. It seems very healthy with good numbers. There would be no teams at any other level.

Our biggest fear is an inundation of registrations at the end of April. We may not be able to accommodate them.

The point being that if your children wish to play softball in Greely in 2023, please go ahead and register as soon as possible. It goes without saying that if you register your child in Greely for 2023 and we are forced to cancel their level due to lack of registrations, your money will be refunded in full , immediately.

Umpires Wanted for 2023

The games cannot be played without the use of umpires. To that end if any of your children, ages 12 and older wish to umpire this year please indicate on your registration OR send an email to vic.wootton@rogers.com and ask to include your son/daughter as an umpire for 2023.

They will be required to attend a 1 day clinic in late April for the training. Greely Softbasll will pay the clinic costs. The rule of thumb is that they will be required to umpire levels either equal to their age or younger  (some exceptions could happen) They must be at least 12 years of age.

Greely Softball will pay them for the games they umpire. How much umpiring they do is dependent as to how many teams we have playing in Greely and how many umpires we have available.
